task force

We all want what is best for our students, and we know that kids thrive when they are in a classroom with their teachers. However, we also are aware of the risks of trying to move back to "normal" too quickly. We are doing our best to balance all the feedback we've received while adhering to the evolving public health guidance from CDC and Napa County health authorities.

Here is what we know so far:

  • The majority of NVUSD families want their children in school this fall with clarity on how our students will be kept safe while the pandemic is still happening;
  • It is clear we will still need an alternative, virtual option for students and families who do not feel comfortable returning to campus;
  • We will need an alternative, virtual model that we can quickly implement in case we reopen and find ourselves having to close again due to any COVID-19 cases on our campuses or due to another public health pandemic surge.

We have created COVID-19 Response Task Force to tackle the challenges of opening in the fall in the best way possible. The Task Force is composed of  30 people, including parents, administrators, teachers, students and a School Board member. Please visit our Covid-19 Task Force webpage for details on our work, including agendas and resources.

The health, safety and socio-emotional well-being of our students and employees will drive all decision making about returning to campus. We also are reviewing how any plan could affect working parents who require child care. Whatever plan we land on will be student-centered and also ensure our educators are well equipped to do what they do best: engaging with our students and inspiring a commitment to lifelong learning.
