About this page

"Class Novels" are supplemental reading approved by the Board of Education.

This page represents titles identified by NVUSD teachers as currently in use (defined as a title assigned to an entire class of students in the last five years) and does not include textbooks. The complete list of approved titles may be found here

The number below each book image indicates the grade level(s) for which use has been approved. (e.g. *7-9)

TEACHERS: If the book you wish to use for your class is not on this list, it must be approved by the Board before it is assigned.

If you wish to suggest a book for approval, please contact Library Services.

Title Accessibility

Print copies of class novels may be available through our school libraries. If your school has a library, please check with your library media tech about print availability. If sufficient copies of the desired title are not available on site, your library media tech can initiate a request to borrow copies from another school through the Library Services office. If you do not have a library at your school, please contact Library Services for assistance.

Ebook (or audiobook) copies can be assigned via OverDrive/Sora to an entire class quickly and easily. Titles will automatically check out to the students on the date the assignment begins and will automatically return in 90 days.

Students can take notes inside the platform, export them to Google Drive or retrieve them in OverDrive/Sora even after the check-out period expires. Learn more about TAKING AND USING NOTES in OverDrive/Sora.

To request a title assignment via the OverDrive/Sora app, email libraries@nvusd.org

Additional titles
Project lit

Titles from the Project Lit program may be used for extracurricular after-school programs.

StudySync (both Core ELA units and the extended Library) may be used for classroom instruction or supplemental assignments.

To determine if a title you wish to use in the classroom is a part of the extended StudySync Library, log into StudySync. Click California StudySync ELA with ELD, then Launch California StudySync ELA with ELD, then select LIBRARY from the top navigation bar.

Search for the title you wish to use. If the title is in the Library and one of the "Associated Tags" indicates the title is approved for your grade, it may be used.
