Developer Fees

Developer fees are charged to developers to cover public costs associated with private development. These fees are charged by cities, counties and special districts. By law, the school district must keep developer fees in a separate account and use them ONLY to address the impact of a growing student population. At NVUSD, most of the funds are spent adding relocatable classrooms to campuses to increase space.

Each year we report how much we collected, how much we spent and what we spent it on.

Sometimes the standard fees are not enough to cover the costs associated with a development. This happens most often when a district must build an entirely new school to accommodate the additional students. Recent examples in Napa and American Canyon include the Canyon Oaks, Napa Pipe and Watson Ranch developments, where developers agreed (or are close to agreement) to pay more, provide land for schools and/or other offsets.

Please be advised that the Board of Trustees (Board) of the Napa Unified School District (District) at its regular meeting to be held on December 9, 2021 will review and approve the following developer fee report entitled, “NVUSD ANNUAL AND 5 Yr REPORT 2020-2021” (Report) IN COMPLIANCE WITH GOVERNMENT CODE § 66006 AND § 66001.”
