CSEA shield logoThe CSEA and District negotiations teams are pleased to share this update regarding our large, multiyear undertaking to revise classified job descriptions and realign ranges.  This is a major accomplishment fueled by the collective commitment to invest time and money in supporting and rewarding the work of our classified employees.  There is still a little more work to be done, but we wanted to pause and celebrate the efforts to date and thank everyone who was involved in the process, both from classified and management employee groups.

On Dec. 6, the NVUSD Board approved the revised Student Calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. We revised the calendar following feedback from parents, students and staff that the version previously approved in October was problematic.

With the revised calendar, we endeavored to fulfill some key interests:

  • Retain our traditional first week of school: Monday and Tuesday as teacher work days; first day of school on Wednesday; and early release on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Offer staff two full days of District-based professional development.
  • To the extent possible, honor the preferences of parents and staff regarding Thanksgiving and Winter breaks.

Our Calendar Committee built three calendar options, and presented them to parents, teachers and staff for reactions. Thank you to the nearly 1,900 people who responded online.

You can see the recommended calendar here. It features:

  • The traditional first week of school, with teacher work days, a Wednesday start for students, and early release all three student days.
  • No changes to the Thanksgiving or Winter student breaks.
  • An additional student day the last week of school in June (last day of school on Friday, June 5, rather than Thursday).
  • Restoring Monday, April 13, as a student day
  • District-based professional development days for staff on Oct. 11 and March 13 (no students on those days).

We are working on any necessary changes regarding graduations or end-of-the-year activities. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to email or call (707) 253-3571.
