On October 11, 2019, over 850 NVUSD instructional staff members (teachers, paraeducators, social workers, principals, assistant principals, school psychologists, speech/language pathologists, counselors, library media specialists, district office administrators) gathered at American Canyon High School to deepen their learning around key district instructional initiatives.  Addressing Student Learning, Achievement and Access (Goal 1 of the strategic plan), the content of the day focused on three areas:

  • Instruction that Works
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
  • Content subject state standards

Instructional staff members were provided new tools and strategies to implement in the classroom with the ultimate goal of increasing students’ sense of well being and academic progress.

Napa Valley USD’s Instructional Services division began planning for the day last January. Over 9 months, the district’s professional learning team prepared for the conference style event, which included 80 unique topics offered during 150 workshop sessions. Topics ranged from “Positive Behavior Supports for Para-Educators”  to “Bringing Depth & Complexity to Classroom Discussions” to “Mindful Tools For Education Professionals.”  As much as possible, specific sessions targeted each specific job category.
